Press Release:
Instantly identify samples in the field with a SPECTRAL EVOLUTION field spectroradiometer and a rugged tablet running EZ-ID software.
Haverhill, MA – April 13, 2021 – Did you know that SPECTRAL EVOLUTION’S EZ ID sample identification software runs on a rugged tablet connected via Bluetooth to a SPECTRAL EVOLUTION field spectroradiometer like the SR-6500, RS-8800, RS-5400, RS-3500 or PSR+™?

Running on the rugged tablet under DARWin™ LT Data Acquisitionsoftware, EZ-ID™ givesyou instant identification of your sample for vegetation and soil analysis. EZ ID matches your field samples against up to three libraries of more than 1100 minerals to identify the top minerals in your soil sample. For vegetation analysis EZ-ID matches against a Custom Library you can easily build of known sample scans. Scans can include different species, different composition of vegetation, for example different amounts of chlorophyll, nitrogen, potassium, phosphorous and more. The results are displayed instantly. You can access the target scan and information fromthe library that your target was matched to.
The EZ-ID results screen presents the following information on the minerals in your sample: up to five Score Tables and Scalars. There are also Tabs to display your sample spectra and library match, library information, and a processing tab where you can set your own match regions and select the correlation score limits.

In this soil sample EZ-ID identified predominantly kaolinite. Some halloysite, hematite and andradite were also found in the sample. Different results were found for each score table based on the match regions selected. In the spectra the match regions are signified by green shaded areas.
Score Tables include:
• Up to five Score Tables made up of match regions selected to focus on key
absorption features for different sample groups. Score Tables include pre-set
match regions.
• Up to three sample matches per Score Table
• Correlation score – degree of accuracy of the match for each sample
• Chemical formula for each sample
Scalars include:
• Al-OH absorption feature
• Kaolinite crystallinity feature
• Illite formation temperature feature
• Chlorite formation temperature feature
• Mg-OH absorption feature
• Fe-OH absorption feature
• Hydroxide-type Fe+3 mineral feature
• Intensity of the FE+3 absorption
• Al-Fe-Mg feature that reports the wavelength of the deepest absorption feature of
these three
EZ-ID on the tablet is shipped with a file with four standard pre-sets for:
• Iron
• Clays
• Sulfates
• Carbonates
EZ-ID can match your samples against three libraries for instant identification. The USGS library is built into EZ-ID for the tablet and the SpecMIN and GeoSPEC libraries are optional. The GeoSPEC library is composed of high resolution spectra from the Colorado School of Mines collection measured with a high resolution oreXpert. The oreXpert has the highest resolution available in a field portable spectrometer. EZ-ID also includes a Custom Library Builder module so you can build your own library of soil and vegetation samples.

In addition to running DARWin LT and EZ-ID, the tablet also includes a digital camera to take photos of samples, voice recording for notes and GPS location information which is saved with your scans. All spectra are saved as ASCII files that are compatible with third party software such as GRAMS, TSG and chemometrics software such as the Unscrambler® from Camo Analytics.
