Press Release:
Portable reflectance/transmittance sphere for vegetation research
Designed for Spectral Evolution spectroradiometers and spectrometers.
Lawrence, MA – April 7, 2016 – The SPECTRAL EVOLUTION RT sphere measures reflectance and transmittance for a wide variety of sample types, including leaves and needles from plants and trees. The 6 inch sphere is compact and portable and delivered with a stand as well as a ¼-20 mount for use with tripods. When used with a spectral evolution spectrometer or spectroradiometer such as the PSR+ or RS-3500, it delivers detailed information for specular included or excluded reflectance measurement, measurement of forward and back scattering, and transmittance measurement of scattering transparent or turbid samples.
The RT sphere can be used in vegetation studies such as comparisons of chlorophyll concentrations of leaves with red-edge characteristics and spectral and transmittance measurements to estimate the leaf area index (LAI) from radiation reflected from a canopy surface.
The RT sphere can accommodate sample and reference beams for a 9° double beam geometry as well port plugs for single 9° beam geometry. The fiber optic is connected at the top of the sphere via an SMA-905 connector. Control panel makes it easy select between reflectance and transmittance and control illumination intensity.
